Artist John Scane - Houses Series
The “Houses” series is about relationships. Memories and reflections of family and friends and the places that defined where so many of those memories were made. As relationships come in and out of existence and importance I find myself often remembering the houses where so many of those memories were formed. Not literal interpretations but more of a moment spawned by “pushing paint" that materializes, is captured and then recedes back into memory. Choices of colors, shape and form spark the process, constructing the houses past and present that represent those relationships. The relationship between a warm and a cool family of hues as well as subtle shifts of value and placement act as building blocks to define space and subject. Architectural and landscape views combine, hovering between a curbside and ariel view creating a space that is flat and illusionistic all at once.
