Todays image of the week was taken in Arezzo Italy in the summer of 2013. This photo of the Tower of Comune di Arezzo and artist Kaarina Kaikkonen's work was on of the pieces for a city wide art exhibition - the ICASTICA 2013 International Women's Art Biennial.

Here's a familiar face. This photo was taken last summer while in Italy. We took our daughter to the Pombia Safari Park in northern Italy and came across this guy. As you might know I'm pretty familiar with donkeys but this is the first time I've seen an albino one.
This image was taken from the inside of Torre Guinigi overlooking the Italian city of Lucca. In the distance is the bell tower of the Duomo di Lucca. One of the things Lucca is famous for is it's intact city walls that enclose the old part of this beautiful Italian city. Because of it's age and layout driving is limited and walking is the main way to get around - one of my favorite cities.
Words can't describe the old world charm and the warm welcome I feel going to Lucca in Tuscany, Italy. The old city reminds us of Venice, Italy since there is very limited driving and lots of streets closed off to vehicles. Lucca's medieval walls surround the city that has everything. We love renting bikes and slowly cycling around the incredible views that surround the city walls.
My very favorite market starts early on Wednesday and Saturday where you can find the best products and prices for beautiful Italian bags, clothes, food and more. Our toddler enjoyed the playgrounds that surround the city and if you're there during the right timeframe your kids might also like the beautiful merry-go-round you can find in the heart of the city.
On this trip we rented through airbnb.com which allowed us to live like locals in a fully equipped apartment. We paid for parking around the outskirts of the city but still in the wall. You can also take trains from Lucca and go as far as Lake Como up North if you don't want to be bothered with a car. Don't miss Lucca if you go to Italy and if you decide to travel South make sure you also check out Sorrento.
Lesson #1 - don't expect to get much work done if you bring a 20 month old toddler. We've been traveling for almost 2 weeks now and it's been great but my high hopes of being able to post images and write about them as we go along has proven difficult. We have been in Italy where we visited with many relatives and on Friday night we arrived in Dubai. More to come but here is a picture I took about a week ago in Lucca, Italy - It rained most of the day but it made for great reflections at night.
Although I've had a horrible cold for over a week now, it's been a good opportunity to do some photo editing. I've added another 50 photos from my 2010 trip to Italy. Originally I had processed all the photos using Apple's Aperture 3 but recently it has become very slow and frustrating to work with so I made a switch to Adobe's Lightroom 4. I've spent weeks of time learning the program and reprocessing all of the photos for ScaneLife but I like it much better than Aperture now. I still have a lot of photos from the 2010 Italy and France trip to go through before I can start on our 2011 Italy trip. My goal is to finish all these photos before I leave this summer for another trip to Italy, France and Dubai. So stay tuned, more galleries to come!
